Show VOR radials for waypoint #718

Open albar965 opened 3 years ago

Find nearest VOR for a waypoint and show radial in waypoint information.

tonghuix commented 3 years ago

It's a good feature!

albar965 commented 3 years ago

I'll try to add this in 2.8.

What if calculate data from any waypoint, for example calculate radial and distance for some waypoint with some HDB as point of calculate, we will get SOMEHDB058/45.2 means 45.2 nm with radial 058, I know such things used in 737s.

Related to this, can a user-point be defined as a distance and radial to a VOR? For example entering SJC019005 or SJC/019/005 for a user-point 5nm to the SJC VOR on the 19 degree radial.

Currently not in the coordinate input fields. This would require a lot more GUI work to resolve duplicate navaids. As a workaround you can use a measurement line from the navaid and then enter the userpoint at the end.

Honestly, that would be really a great feature. Just having something like a VOR tool (a wizard), where you can associate to each waypoint a given VOR and than you press calculate and g et the the VOR distance and radial angle as item in the flight plan. Cheers -- wonderful tool by the way -- Really love it !

@IstiCusi Hi Stephan, I need a more simple solution. Maybe show radial for a WP for the nearest VOR in tooltip or so. Have to see.

For now you can start a measurement line at at VOR (right-click on it) and this will show the radial in the line: grafik This also considers the calibrated declination of the VOR which can be different than the declination in the environment. Maybe you have to enable the radial display in LNM options on "Map Display Labels" to see it.

Hope this helps a bit.

I use also the measurement tool at the moment to achieve this ... but for a real flight plan it is clearly nice to have it directly in the flight plan you can fastely reference to in the flight. But I totally agree -- this is not a necessity .. would be just a nice feature.

This would be very nice to have. I was just now searching how to do this. I navigate with radio only (no gps) and having radio references for arbitrary flight waypoints would be very helpful so I would not have to deviate to the VOR point to have its information in the flight plan.

What I can offer in one of the next major releases (e.g. 3.2):

No manual assignment. This is too much.
