dedicated server unstable #197

Converted from SourceForge issue 2700864, submitted by albertzeyer

After perhaps 3 hours of runtime (so not actually that much!), I didn't found my server anymore on the serverlists. Perhaps that is related to the strange proxy errors.

Hmm, seems like it's running out of socket handles. I probably forgot CloseSocket somewhere...

About that proxy thing - do you see the "" proxy in options as well? If so, what happens if you remove it and restart the game?

Why running out of socket handles? Then the error would occur in Open*Socket, not in ReadSocket. The message itself also says someting different, it says that the socket is not connected.

This error is for the CServer::tSocket. We are using this socket for a lot of different things (sending to all clients and sending to UDP-masterserver; depending on the client (or masterserver), we always reset the net adress. Whereby that should never close the socket.

Perhaps we called somewhere wrongly CloseSocket on this tSocket and tried to use it then, that is more what this seems like.

I already added some further checks in the meanwhile and haven't seen this anymore. Whereby I was still not able anymore to have longer runtimes on my dedicated server, I always have crashes or other problems. Some of them were introduced when you changed the NAT traversal thing, some already earlier. Check my mail in the mailinglist when I said that I got the problem that the timing variable is too inaccurate when hosting for longer then 3 days. At this time, it was pretty much stable but some of the changes in the meanwhile lead to this socket errors or also crashes (but not related to the timing changes). The last error I got (yesterday) was a bad_alloc.

Btw, "Socket is not valid." or "Bad file descriptor." says more then just not connected, it says that the socket is completly invalid. Are we overwriting GameServer::tSocket somewhere? E.g., if we overwrite/modifiy it from multiple threads at the same time (e.g. if we set different remote adresses of the socket in different threads), this would explain the error. Do you know if we ever access the GameServer::tSocket from different threads?

I don't think we access it in other threads. Besides that, NL sockets are threadsafe.

Latest ded server as of rev. 4128 is stable, should we perhaps close this?

Another issue is about the proxy error but we have another bug report about this. E.g., I am not sure if the server is registered at all on the HTTP master server.
