DocBook 5.1 is not yet fully released, so this is not an urgent RFE by any means.
In DocBook 6, support for XSD is likely to be dropped. Instead the schema will be provided in Relax NG.
The schema is already being written in Relax NG and converted to XSD, so I guess we could be using http://docbook.org/xml/5.0/rng/docbook.rng.
