Throughput modes:

Bursting

permitted throughput

• baseline throughput
• burst throughput

If the metered size of your file system provides a higher baseline rate than the throughput you provisioned, then your file system defaults to the Bursting Throughput model.

• General Purpose - Lower latency

Metered throughput

• For file systems that use Bursting Throughput mode, the metered throughput is determined by the amount of data stored in the EFS Standard or EFS One Zone storage class.
• For file systems that use Elastic Throughput mode, the metered throughput is determined by the amount of data read and written.
• For file systems that use Provisioned Throughput mode, the metered throughput is determined by the amount of provisioned throughput.

You can use Amazon CloudWatch to determine your workload's average-to-peak ratio by comparing the MeteredIOBytes metric to the PermittedThroughput metric.
