NightLine:
Nightline Association aims to equip Nightline volunteers with the tools, knowledge and skills to manage, promote and deliver the best possible service to student callers.
Nightline Association recruits highly skilled volunteers to help Nightlines develop their services and increase their reach in the student population. Being a volunteer for Nightline is challenging, rewarding and inspiring – Nightline stands apart from many other student activities which are often social or recreational. Through intensive training you will develop strong communication skills including active listening, and if you take on a committee role you can gain a wealth of experience Nightline is a student listening service which is open at night and run by students for students. Every night of term, student volunteers answer calls, emails, instant messages, texts and talk in person to their fellow university students about anything that’s troubling them.
Most Nightlines also offer information and some have supplies such as condoms, pregnancy tests and attack alarms.
For most students their time at university is a positive experience however for some it can be characterised by periods of stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression. Rising fees, academic pressures and concerns about employability can also impact on student mental wellbeing. Nightlines offer university students a safe space to talk about their feelings or whatever’s troubling them with fear of being judged or ridiculed.

Dig Deep:
Dig Deep works to provide schools and communities with access to water and sanitation in rural Kenya.
Work in partnership with communities to bring lasting change, building rainwater harvesting systems and latrines; working with communities to ensure that the water supplies are maintained for future generations; and training students, teachers and community leaders in hygiene and sanitation, enabling people to break the cycle of poverty and transform their own lives.
Clean drinking water, proper toilets and good hygiene are essential, and yet in rural Kenya too many children and communities lack these services. They have to walk long distances to collect water; children are getting sick from unclean water and poor hygiene and girls are dropping out of school because of the difficulty of not having private toilets.
They also train teachers and community health workers in health and hygiene, ensuring that communities understand how diseases spread and what they need to do to keep themselves and their families healthy. We also run menstrual hygiene training, breaking down stigma, correcting misinformation and giving girls the tools and insight they need to continue their education and role in the community when menstruating.
They build latrines in schools, providing children with a safe, hygenic and private space in which to go to the toilet. While this sounds simple, it has a huge impact on children’s health and school attendance, particularly for teenage girls.
