How to install medit #1

I would like to use the program medit to open and visualize some .mesh files. How can I install it in my ubuntu 14.04 64-bit? Should I download the .gz file from http://www.ann.jussieu.fr/frey/software.html ? And then, how can I run it? Or, how can I get the program from the github repo you own ( https://github.com/alecjacobson/medit)? (Please help!! Could you tell me the steps I have to go through?) Thank you so much,

I didn't write medit. I'm merely hosting a github repo with compilation instructions and makefiles, primarily tested on mac os x. You should be able to compile medit on linux using my makefiles without too much trouble.
