Make Sigma the default explorer in Windows #110

Feature request:

I've used this explorer for a couple of days and I'm quite pleased with it, but not being able to make it the default explorer in windows is kind of annoying as I keep switching between the default explorer and Sigma. I've been lookin and found this, it seems to be posible to change the default explorer in windows and they mention that there is an explorer called Q-Dir that is already doing this. The process requires editing the windows registry so I don't want to do it myself, but It would be amazing if you guys could implement it as a simple option in the settings.

Hi, thanks for your feedback.

I don't really understand what would change, if I made it the default file manager. Sigma and Explorer are both just apps, right? Couldn't you simply always open Sigma instead of Explorer?

We have a similar situation with internet browsers - Windows has a default browser, but most people just use Google Chrome instead.

This is why I don't really see the benefits of making it default, even if it's possible.

There's also 3 big problems with this:

  1. It would be very difficult to implement all the core system functionality of the Explorer (things like file picker).
  2. It would take several months of work to do this.
  3. Explorer is very stable it's been tested for ~25 years on billions of computers and by hundreds of automated test systems. It's been developed by many professional Microsoft engineers. Sigma is on the other hand, was just released, it hasn't been thoroughly tested yet, it's not very stable. I even recommend people not to use it when working with important files, because I cannot fully trust it myself until it's been properly tested.

I might implement some of the default file manager's functionality, but I'm not sure what functionality exactly people would want to see. Can you give me some examples?

Thanks for answering =)

The main thing that annoys me double clicking a folder in my desktop and having it open with the default sistem explorer instead of Sigma, so I have to open Sigma navigate to the desktop and then open the folder. It's just a small inconvenience but it really bugs me.

Yeah, I guess I underestimated the scale of this change a lot, sorry for asking the impossible. Anyways I just want to thank you for answering and for bringing us this awesome file explorer.

@AntonioGC-UMA well, I can implement some functionality of the default Explorer. I can make it open directories in Sigma instead of Explorer by adding registry keys. I just tried it and it worked.

Implementing this functionality properly would take a few days, I'd need to research this more.

That's really all I want right now. I would love to see it in a future update.

This is clearly a feature that takes time to properly implement, but even a rough implementation would be much appreciated. Love the work you are doing here, keep it up man.
