There may be some relevant discussion in #338. By the way, what exactly do you mean by "inadequate glyph", @wehro? What would be the adequate glyph?

Also, for reference, "double macron" here refers to a double-length macron over two characters, not one stacked over another, which IIUC is the subject of #67, #118/#126, and #286.

I don’t see any direct relationship to #338.

I don’t know the name of this glyph nor its correct codepoint. But it’s certainly not a macron. For Libertinus Sans (Regular and Italic) I get the following output for ‘au’ with combined double macron:

au

It should be obvious that the italic output is not correct.
