Phone still broadcasts AP after turning off tether #1150

Which device (manufacturer, type)?
HTC Hero, CDMA

Which firmware is installed?
Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 RC1 nightly

What version of wireless tether are you using?
3.1-beta6

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. turn tether on
2. turn tether off
3. phone is still broadcasting AP

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The phone should stop stop broadcasting. It continues broadcasting.

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm using a HTC Hero with Auto Tether to automatically turn wifi tethering on
so I can tether my galaxy tab to my phone without having to take my phone out
of my pocket. Auto Tether only works with the beta version of this app.

Regardless if I use Auto Tether or not to turn wifi tethering, when I turn the
wifi tether off on my phone, the phone is still broadcasting an ad-hoc network,
but nothing is being routed through my data connection. Because the phone is
still broadcasting an AP, the battery drains rather fast, even with an extended
battery.

I've been connecting to my phone via ssh with my tablet and rebooting the phone
from the shell when I want to turn wifi off. I know this is a beta version. I'm
willing to help beta test any possible fixes (as long as there isn't a large
risk of my phone blowing up).

Samsung Droid Charge with the same issue: 3.1-beta6
Tether on: works fine. Tether off: SSID still broadcast, but no data flow.
Resolve by reboot. Issue seems consistent.

Well. All I know is that windows shows adhoc-networks even if they don't exist
anymore. I've seen that some times ... even if I performed a shutdown and
pulled the battery out windows still showed me the adhoc-network.

BTW ... what is "Auto Tether"?

In my case (Samsung Droid Charge) tether was running in infrastructure mode
prior to the issue, tethering was turned off, yet the phone was definitely
still broadcasting (as detected by both my WiFi bridge (Linux) and a windows
laptop which had been off when the tether app was 'active') the detected signal
strength of the phone AP would change as the phone moved about relative to the
bridge or laptop antennas, and the SSID disappeared from detection as soon as
the phone was rebooted.

Seems to happen every time for me. Coincidentally? the shutdown of tether
seems incomplete as I must reboot the phone to turn it back on when using
infrastructure mode.

Regardless, thanks very much for such a useful tool.

I am using WIFItether on HTC HERO.
1) I start WIFItether while WIFI is in desactivate state.
2) everything works fine
3) I stop WIFItether
4) PROBLEM: Although the phone parmeters says WIFI desactivate state, the phone
is still broadcasting an ad-hoc network, but nothing is being routed through my
data connection. Because the phone is still broadcasting an AP, the battery
drains rather fast.
5) to solve the problem, I have to think to activate/desactivate WIFI through
phone parameters. Reboot is not necessary

Is it possible for wifitethering to stop completely phone WIFI instead?

Thanks

I am using WifiTether on Samsung Droid Charge, running Humblecomb 4.0

1) Start Wifi Tether in Device Profile: Epic 4G, Setup Method: Softap for
Samsung
2) Turn off Wifi Tether
3) Phone is still broadcasting an access point, however no IP or data
connection is available with attempting to connect to it. Phone battery drains
quite fast. Only fix found so far is to reboot the phone.
