I have the stock mobile tether app running an I'm experiencing the same
problem. Works great for most sites, but gets hung up on certain ones. It
wouldn't load Motorola or phonescoop for me even though both sites were up and
running.

Just noticed amazon works fine except when I go to the my account link. The
page loads, but does so very slowly and the page doesn't display correctly. At
first I thought maybe the phone had a problem with the encryption since the my
account link was https, but I just went to my banks website and it loaded with
no problem.

Do you see the option "MSS Clamping" in app-settings? If yes, try to enable it.

Looked, but couldn't find an option for mss clamping. Do you think the MTU
size might be causing the problem? I was searching for the default MTU rate of
the Droid razr, but couldn't come up with anything.

Well. We had a similiar issue on other devies - enabling MSS Clamping solved
it. You could also try to change the dns-servers (app-settings) or try if the
device can "translate" (domain-names to ip-address) of sites which obiously
don't open.
It's nearly impossible for me to "debug" such stuff ... don't own such a phone.

Same here Stock WiFi Tether .apk Will time out browsers on certain URL's.
This also seems to be OS specific. Example On my Galaxy Tab 10.1
www.google.com will load fine yet on stock browser Win7 Pro X64 Non-Domain PC
it will not load www.google.com I have noticed that www.weather.com will not
load on any device, (mobile weather.com will load with no issue) Verizon has
been no help and has only offered to cancel the hospot feature or get a
different handset. I have also been told by Verizon that they cant do anything
and I need to follow up with Motorola.
Its all bull sh** if you ask me and its bad for us...
SHAME on Verizon for not properly testing handsets before going to market.

Have you tried removing the stock.apk? Using a file manager like ES File
Explorer you can move it from /system/apps to a backup folder on your SD card.
I removed it from my RAZR along with most of the Motobloat, but have not tried
Wireless Tether yet.

Let me know if deleting the stock .apk works and allows Wireless Tether to run
properly. I rooted my Droid X and installed Wireless Tether but like countless
others the Verizon stock Mobile Hotspot is activating triggering Verizon to
know that you are trying to use WiFi and that sends you to the "Sign Up Here:
So We Can Take More of Your Money for Data You're Already Paying For" website
and nowhere else, I though if you were to remove the stock one it would allow
Wireless Tethering to work properly or maybe installing the new Beta would
work...grrrr

you can use sql lite to remove the entitlement check, you wont be prompted
to accept any data policy. There is a video on you tube explaining the
steps. I pay for my Teathering so I dont want to make any changes to
system apk's. Hoping Verizon/motorola get there stuff togeather and
release FOTA update.

Could you guys please try the latest experimental version available here:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-pre104.apk
This one has now a "razr"-profile. Lets see if it works *fingers crossed*.

Try toggling "routing fix" under settings, if you have problems reaching
certain sites.

This solves all my problems, I cant tell you how thankful I am. It does not
force addhoc mode on the aftermarket.apk and resolves all my DNS problems.
Thank you for being human.

One thing, and I'm not sure if requests are even possible... and I see that
"harald...@gmail.com" is the Owner/Creator of WirelessTether.apk. Could either
of you make it possible in "LAN" settings where you are able to "Change LAN"
make it possible to add my own IP range? (That was a mouthful sorry)
The reason it would be so handy is...
I have my Internal IP range's set on the Corporate Network set the same as my
Home Network. This way I never have to change the static IP configs on some of
the devices I bring back and forth to work. Sux that I have to change the IP
config every-time on a static device when I connect to my hotsopt. I did
notice that there were many default ranges in the "Change LAN" settings just
not the one I need.
Great work on such a quick fix!
Hope my request doesn't spoil how awesome the .apk is!

I just did a SQL edit as detailed in the YouTube video. Unfortunately you end
up using Verizon's hotspot but you don't get charged for it. I am excessively
happy now. It really is a simple fix. The only down side is that the SQL editor
app costs $3. It is totally worth it compared to Verizon's $30/month though.

Sweet! You might want to go to the download section and grab the 3.1-beta7
version. It's a free download.

I found that the MTU setting was indeed the culprit for the stock hotspot app
not loading certain websites:

Got it working with the beta APK. I followed these steps:
Install the beta APK. Set it to RAZR profile.
Restart the phone.
Turn on WifiTether. I got an error stating "Mobile Link Lost" (from the stock
mobile hotspot).
Turn off Data (from the Data Manager menu) and re-enabled it.
was able to connect from my tablet.
