I began this class with absolutely no knowledge or background in computer science. The first day, I opened my laptop and saw my Powershell terminal. Without reading or typing anything, I immediately got super scared. It looked like an official thing that they have in the movies where the main protaginist hacks a system with code. I thought "oh no this class is going to be terrible I don't understand anything." I cried about 3 times that first week. But now, I realize that a lot of people don't know much. They just have confidence and know they can learn.
What I've learned
I have learned so much in this class. Not only did I learn how a computer works, how to use Github/powershell, Python, a little Javascript, markdown, html, jupyter notebooks, and how to debugg, but so much more. I learned that planning every detail of a project and staying organized is essential for success. I learned to not get discouraged or give up when I encounter an error. I learned to utilize resources and strategically go about debugging. The most important thing I learned in this class was to be confident and go for it. My mindset coming into CSP was that I wasn't good enough for it. However, quickly I discovered that if I put in the work and effort, I can learn/accomplish anything.
Some highs from the year:
working with my team to debug our database during second tri- when we finally got it to work, it was the best feeling
after spending time with my dad and working on the student lessons during first tri, I finally began understanding code and python (lowkey was kidna fun)
Ava and I working as a duo for this project- we actually accomplished so much by ourselves
looking at my past struggles and seeing how much I have improved
when we discovered Chat GPT and debugging became much more efficient :)
Some lows from the year:
setting up tools- I was very, very, very confused and scared
honestly making my first markdown post-still was very confused and I didn't have problem solving skills yet
working with my team first tri- Ava and I did all the work (even though we didn't know how to do it) and were stressed
deployment-let's be honest, this definitely is not my strong suit
Sunday nights for first tri and a little bit of second tri (I got better with completing my work more efficiently in class in the second half of the year)
working at 3 AM in Florida on student lessons
the 75% you gave Ava and I after that ^
people copying my work and taking credit :O
Future Plans with CompSci
I plan to continue learning about computer science. I love the feeling of accomplishment after a while of working on a project. I am not taking another CS class in highschool, but I may end up taking another class in college depending on what I go into. I am also now a part of Theo's coding club so I will stay updated on that.
Future Plans in Education/Career
I want to go to a four year college and pursue something STEM realted. I'm not sure what major or school yet, but hopefully something in Engineering and in California. After this class, I have more confidence that I will be able to learn and at least go for it.
