Seems it's hard (and frustrating) to find accurate data on these things. But the OPEC website gives $45.6 bn for petroleum exports (2016). This link gives gold exports for UAE as $20.7 bn (2017).
So fortunately the OEC site is not terribly off. I understand comparing two different years is risky but it's better than nothing. And the export data seems to differ in the billions between different sources and classification systems.
Page in reference (I assume): https://atlas.media.mit.edu/en/visualize/tree_map/hs92/export/are/all/show/2016/
Closing for now.
Hi,
Thanks for a wonderful website.
I was wondering why for the UAE, gold and diamonds are some of the top exports of the country when clearly oil is their biggest export. It should be more than just 1 % of exports. Here is some basic data from OPEC
Thanks for your help.
