Contact List for csipsimple is requested #148

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

Since the Contact List of Android does not support sip account format for
dialing out, I would like to have a built-in contact list for csipsimple in
order that we do not have to enter the address every time when dialing out.

Well several way to solve this issue :
1 - should be included with the support of SIP SIMPLE (the buddy list part of
the protocol). It will allow to share a buddy list using the sip protocol. (But
so contact infos will not be really complete - only a sip uri and the sip
presence of the user).
2- A third party application could support sip contacts and merge it into
Android contact list. This is the best way to provide a sip uri for each
contact. Besides it will allow not only csipsimple but also sipdroid, linphone
etc etc to take advantage of this application. And another good reason for
choosing a third party application is that this (these) application will
probably be able to cleanly integrate the android contact list as a contact
provider (such as facebook or twitter already do). As csipsimple is compatible
from the 1.5 version of android it will be really complicated to keep the
compatibility and provide something really cool for the user experience. So we
should take advantage of the great android openess and choose the solution of a
different contact application that support sip protocol.
3- We could open a request to android guys and ask them to support sip protocol
in native contacts. Maybe I could contribute for that ... but for now since
csipsimple is not yet stable it is not logical that I do that should already
have be done by sipdroid guys or linphone guys (if they don't already try)

I like this best. Once merged, the sip address will appear as though it is a
normal part of the contact info.

Is there a third party application now, or even better - a recommendation for
one that that does this? I have tried the market version and a recent beta and
contacts do not work at all for me (Android 2.3.3).
