Problem creating index files for hg38.. #1620

I am trying to create an index file for hg38 in Linux.

the error I get is the following: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' what(): std::bad_alloc

Do you have any idea what is wrong? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi @tmk1219

nothing suspicious in the Log.out. How much RAM do you have in this server? You need at least 32GB for this genome.

It could be the same issue - not enough RAM.

I have the same problem. I was trying to make an index for GRCh38. I was using the genome from Genecode (GRCh38.p14). Also, I was trying to run this on our HPC cluster.

I used these parameters: STAR --runThreadN 1 --runMode genomeGenerate --genomeDir star_genecode_index --genomeFastaFiles GRCh38.p14.genome.fa --sjdbGTFfile gencode.v44.chr_patch_hapl_scaff.annotation.gtf --genomeChrBinNbits 12 --limitGenomeGenerateRAM 124544990592.
