layman -o http://gpo.zugaina.org/lst/gpo-repositories.xml -L

layman -o 
https://async-emerge.googlecode.com/svn/distfiles/layman/ae-overlay.xml  -L

doing the same here layman pulls it in and presto no editing needed easy as pie.

bah was hoping it would work 
however if the xml file gets edited perhaps it will pull in automatically 

or if you add to zugania via email.

Yes, you can, but you'll get the warning

 * Please check if it has been renamed and re-add if necessary.

layman -l

update without -o ...

> or if you add to zugania via email.
May be later - it is not so popular to add it to the global list.
