Question about Privacy Policy #154

Open wrbeaudo opened 4 years ago

wrbeaudo commented 4 years ago

I am participating in a review of Google Marketplace apps for a Higher Education University. The current privacy policy looks like it is a copy/paste of a common template. For the purposes of our review we MUST have it more explicitly stated what data is collected, stored, and shared for it to be approved for use at our university. Response on an issue or an email is fine, so no need to change the privacy policy. But we need the list of data elements collected for it to be approved.

If submitting an issue is not an appropriate way to query for this issue, please let me know a more correct method.

+1

I want us to start using code-blocks but without having for information regarding the data that is collected, stored, and shared, I can't really do much or we'd be at risk of not being CCPA and GDPR compliant.

Does code-block collect, store and/or share information / content from the documents?

Thank you

@alexwforsythe any input on this?

Hey everybody, thanks for your patience on this issue. I'm looking into it now.

The main pieces of data collected by the add-on are user profile, user input in the sidebar, and content from the document where the add-on is active. This data is shared with Google and stored on their servers -- no data is stored by the add-on itself. I'm trying to find out if any other information is collected by Google via the Google Apps Script libraries that Code Blocks uses, but their documentation on this isn't very informative.

Planning to have the privacy policy updated with this information sometime this week.

@alexwforsythe noticed that the privacy policy still shows last updated 11 months ago. Any chance we can get this resolved on your end?

Hey again! Sorry for the delays. I've been very busy these last few months and haven't had any time to work on Code Blocks.

I don't have any practice on writing privacy policies, which is why it's a copy-pasted template. At this point, I can't commit to any deadline for updating the policy. I'd really appreciate any contributions if any of you have experience with this sort of thing.

In the meantime, I can say that Code Blocks is simply a Google Apps Script that uses Google APIs to collect data and store it on Google servers, so their privacy policy (wherever it is) will tell you how this data is managed. I don't host any servers or databases for Code Blocks, so the add-on itself doesn't store or share any data. Hopefully that is enough for those of you who aren't blocked by updates to the official privacy policy.

Hey Alex,

Totally understandable. What you provided in your response was enough for us to move forward with. I was just curious if it was going to be codified in your privacy policy at some point. Thanks for getting back to me on this!
