mac mousecapes only working for the arrow type

i have a whole set of cursors that ive been trying to use on my mac but the mousecape will only work on the arrow type of cursor. all the other types dont work and just continue being the default mac types (for example the pointing hand comes up when i hover over a link even though i have a cape thats supposed to be working to show something different). please help!
