V0.4 is causing video corruption when exiting ftpii channel forwarder #80

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install ftpii channel forwarder
2. Run forwarder
3. Exit forwarder

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expect to see normal return to Wii Menu but I get video corruption on the
lower 1/3 of the TV screen. The corruption does not crash system and does
successfully return to the system menu.

What version of priiloader are you using? On what ios/system menu?

v0.4 on IOS70 4.2U

Do you have any IOS patches installed? (if so which ios and what patch?)

IOS36-v3351 - Fakesign, ES_Identity, Nand
Hermes v5 202,222,223,224 - Fakesign, ES_Identity, Nand
Wanikokow v19 249,250 - Fakesign, ES_Identity, Nand

See attached Syscheck report from Dop-Mii V12 for full report.

What are your wii system menu settings

TV Resolution - Standard TV 480i
Widescreen Settings - Widescreen (16:9) but have also tried Standard (4:3)

I noticed this problem when moving from 0.3b to 0.4. The problem does not
exist on 0.3b. I have attached the wad to install ftpii channel forwarder.

Thanks for all your hard work...

looked fine on my 4.2e system :/
i also have 16:9 as video settings...

i also wonder why it would touch the screen while the video isn't init while
doing
autoboot/return to :/

Edited in : if you mean the green bar that appears and disappears fast ; then
thats a
common thing that i can do something about i think...

Hi daco65,

Thanks for the speedy response. Everything boots correctly. The corruption is
the
green bar of snow that displays briefly at the bottom when exiting ftpii and
returning
to the system menu. Can you fix this problem? Thanks for your support...

Hi daco65,

I was wondering if there is any progress on the green bar thing? I realize
that it is
not a show stopper but it sure is annoying. I am not having this trouble with
any of
the other forwarders that I use. However I can not help but wonder if this
problem
will occur for forwarders that other folks use. Thanks again for your
support...

it isn't even forwarder related afaik
its related to priiloader having the video init and then starting system menu.

Hi daco65,

Sorry to bother you again about this issue. Do you think it is going to be
possible to
make the green bar disappear? You say it is not forwarder related but it is
the only
one that I have this problem with. I have tried other forwarders for ftpii but
they do
not work for usb. Thanks for your support...

The problem started for me when I upgraded from 0.3b R48 to 0.4 R78. I am sure
that
there are other revisions but I am unable to download them. If you provide me
with the
links for the other revisions I would be glad to test and pinpoint the exact
revision
the problem occurs.

Hi daco65,

Sorry to bug you again about this issue. I guess you do not want my assistance
with
isolating the release where the problem occurs? I am curious about a comment
you
made "i have it with anything asa i start system menu from priiloader". I am
assuming that your are referring to launching titles from priiloader? I tested
all
of my forwarders using "Launch Title" and find that I am getting different
results
than launching them from the System Menu. Here are my forwarders and the
results...

WiiMC(WIMC) - No video problem.
WiiXplorer Channel(WIIX) - No video problem.
FTPii Channel(GSFT) - Video problems starting and exiting app.
Mplayer CE(GSMP) - No Video Problem.
WiiFlow(WFJO) - Video problem starting but no problem exiting app.

I find it interesting that FTPii forwarder only has the problem on the way out
when
launching from the system menu but has the problem on the way in as well when
launching from the priiloader menu. The same applies for my WiiFlow forwarder
in
that the problem does not occur at all from the system menu but occurs only
when
starting up from the priiloder menu.

Based on these results I must conclude that the video problem is forwarder
specific.
Would you agree? Perhaps I do not understand your statement. Please advise.
Thanks
for your support...

I see now what you are saying. I also confirm the green bar when launching the
System
Menu from the priiloader menu. Interesting thing with my results with the
forwarders
behaving differently when launching from priiloader and the System Menu.
Anyway my
offer still stands to test the releases and isolate when the problem started.
Thanks

I would love to test this out but how do I get R88 to try? Do I have to
compile it
myself? I do not have the dev kit installed and am unfamiliar with compiling

Daco65 I see that you attached an Installer dol for the person that reported
issue 75.
Why will you not give me one? I am not trying to be a developer and install
devkit and
compile source code. I know you have R88 already compiled so can you please
attach a
copy of the installer dol? Then I will test this issue as well as issue 86
that I
reported. Thanks for all your work and support...

Daco,

I am confused here. The release that is available in Issue 83 displays in
priiloader
as version R85M. When I test this release I find that the green has
disappeared when
launching the System Menu from the Priiloader screen. However the green bar
still
appears when exiting the FTPii forwarder. I really need R88 to see if the
forwarder
problem has been fixed. I am also currious about the rolling screens that is
reported.
I can test this too if I have the latest release...

Original comment by gsoud...@cox.net on 17 May 2010 at 4:30

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
then im guessing the green bar is part of the FTPii forwarder and not priiloader
cause i seriously had no issues here and it can't be priiloader cause it
completly
deinits VI before booting system menu so you dont see the green bar :/

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 17 May 2010 at 4:46

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Daco,

I feel as if you are not understanding my posts. As I stated the release I
have is
R85M downloaded from Issue 83. Are you saying that this is in fact the latest
release? I believe that R88 is the latest. The changes you made to fix this
problem
were not included until R88 right? So my test for the green thing are not
valid with
version R85M.

Secondly the FTPii forwarder does not have this issue with 0.3B R48. The
forwarder
has not changed only Priiloader has changed. I will ask you again to please
attach a
compiled installer for R88 so I finally test the forwarder issue with the
latest
version R88. Thanks...

Now we are getting somewhere. Ok so I see that the green video corruption has
been
fixed when launching the system menu from the priiloader menu. However the
green bar
still exists when exiting FTPii when launched via the forwarder that I sent
you. Are
you saying that you have the FTPii forwarder installed and that the problem has
gone
away for you when you exit FTPii after launching from the forwarder? Please
advise...

Just thought I would also mention that I ran the tests using Launch Title that
I ran in
Comment 17 again with the new release R85. The results were the same. Video
problems
exist for FTPii and Wiiflow forwarders.

Original comment by gsoud...@cox.net on 17 May 2010 at 8:21

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Daco please refer to comment 3 by you. You mention the green bar in that post.
 Now
you are saying that you never were able to reproduce it? Then how did you know
that
the green bar was the problem I was referring to regarding the FTPii forwarder?

The problem does not occur when launching FTPii from Homebrew only when exiting
the app
after launching it from the forwarder. Please test this again to reconfirm.
Could you
also try testing it by launching the forwarder via Launch Title from the
Priiloader
Menu. Thanks...

about rolling screen ...

When exit to system menu from HBC and screen blacks and Priiloader start to
launch
system menu I get two green lines in the middle of the screen, 1 long, 1 short,
the
short line is the sysmenu botton and the long is sysmenu top and then when
sysmenu
is displayed the colours are wrong and the screen is rolling.

Display settings are 60Hz 480p Widescreen.

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 23 May 2010 at 2:46

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Hi daco65,

Well I can only assume that the reason that you do not get the green bar is a
result
of different system menu versions. You are running 4.2e and I an running 4.2u.
 I
can reproduce this problem on two dirrerent systems that are both running 4.2u.
 If
anyone one else running 4.2u reads this message then please test this forwarder
to
see if you have the problem. Can anyone please compile the latest ftpii as a
dol
instead of an elf? If so then I will create another forwarder for ftpii. I
have
tried to create one using the elf and can not get it to work. Thanks...

Original comment by gsoud...@cox.net on 24 May 2010 at 4:03

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
you know there are elf to dol converters right?

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 24 May 2010 at 4:31

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Yes but none of them work. The converters were designed to convert older elf
files
that stopped working after HBC 9 came out. Apparently the old elf's were
compiled with
an older version of DevkitPPC and stopped working after HBC 9. So if the elf
works
currently then converting it will break it. Can you compile the Ftpii source
into a
dol for me and I will use it to create a new forwarder? It would be greatly
appreciated so we can move on from the issue. Thanks...

I am using 41E and do not have any green bar when exiting from ftpii, but I
have
gone back to r85 until daco can resolve the rolling screen issue, because a
small
cosmetic glitch is better than a rolling screen ;)
