No, it's not gładka ziemia. It's gładka rzeźba terenu; powierzchnia can work as a synonym for rzeźba terenu.

alice-mkh commented 11 years ago

So "ziemia" only means "Earth"? I used it the same way I would do in Russian, where "земля" (ziemla) means also "terrain" and "dirt".

According to the dictionary, ziemia means pretty much the same as земля. However, ziemia as in terrain only works in case it's a piece of terrain owned by someone. The text in OldDays refers to terrain shape.

Ok, thanks. So "rzeźba terenu" == "terrain carving" literally (No literal equivalent in Russian, "резьба земли" feels very weird), and "powierzchnia" == "поверхность" == "surface". Seems reasonable. //The next question will probably be about -a and -u endings of nouns in genitive case. Every time I thought that I had understood them I found something that disproved it. :)

Looked again at the changes, noticed that I have typed "zemia". That was a typo, not a spelling error. :)
