Usability: Loading OSM background should be on by default #74

I think most users want to have a track view with OSM background, it's just so
much more useful. So this should be the default. People who don't want it can
still turn it off.

Hi,

I disagree as some people don't have unlimited data plans (like me for example
;-) ) especially in countries where it's not cheap.
In regard of that I consider the current default to be the less "harmful" and
prefer to have users explicitly enable this feature (knowing that it will cost
them money).

I'm intersted on having other opinions on that subject...

I don't have unlimited data plan either, so having the OSM background loaded by
default would not be fine for me.

If the default is kept to "off", maybe a more obvious way to activate it would
be nice. Like showing a Toast that tells you about this setting and a menu item
that directly activates/deactivates it.

I think keeping it off by default is better than enabling it. Because not
everyone has a data plan and this could cause a lot of cost.

What about these to possibilities:
1. ask the user on the first run (after installation) if OSM background should
be enabled. (so everyone will notice this feature of osmtracker)
2. In track view: a menu item "show OSM Background" which will cause a dialog
that tells about possible data costs and the possibility to enable OSM
background in preferences. And a "disable OSM Background" item which will cause
a dialog that tells you how to disable OSM background in preferences (if not
already disabled)

What do you think about this?

Not a bad idea ! I prefer to have your 1. question asked the first time the
user uses the "display track" screen, instead of at the first run of the app.
(I'm not fond of apps that nags you with a screen with some text to read just
after you install them, but it's personal taste ;-) ).

Maybe we should provide the 2 options from the track logger, like "Display
track" and "Display track with OSM", as a separate menu item, instead of using
a setting ? The 2 display view could be both used this way, instead of having
to choose for only one at a time and go to the settings screen to use the other
one...
