Poor Performance and repeated crashing on Nexus 7 after Kit Kat update and updated app #680

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Opening 725 page pdf with notes, bookmarks, and highlights
2.
3.

What is the expected output?
Page/pdf will load with notes, highlights and bookmarks. 

What do you see instead?
Page/pdf will not load. Will crash app repeatedly. 

What version of the product are you using?

V2.1.0
On what operating system?
Android 4.4.2

What device are you using?
Nexus 7 2012 32 GB WiFi version 

Please provide any additional information below.
App was more stable before OS was updated and app was updated.

Did you used fresh os install or in-place upgrade? We have some reports that 
this can happen after ota upgrade. Try to uninstall and then reinstall 
EBookDroid.

Upgrade to 4.4.2 was done through OTA. Uninstalled EBookDroid but would not 
reinstall now. "Unknown error code during application install:"-24" "

Hmm. It seems that something wrong with OS on your device. Did you have root? 
If yes, please try to delete folder /data/data/org.ebookdroid/ if it exists and 
try to install program again.

No my device was not rooted. Anyway, I just did a factory reset and rooted the 
device. EBookDroid was successfully installed. It is now more responsive, but I 
lost all notes and highlights. I am not sure, but it seems that the notes and 
highlights also slow down PDF rendering.

I am still having poor performance issues. I am still having long load times 
for new pages. I get gray pages similar to this thread:
