space key does not blank letters on xoom #16

On my captivate (galaxy s) running froyo, I can use the, space key on the 
(onscreen) keyboard to blank out mistakenly-entered letters.

On my xoom running 3.1, space does not blank out the current cell.

Thanks so much for your work on Shortyz! I use it for the cryptic crossword 
sources and very much appreciate the opportunity to carry around cryptic. :-)
