Updated Gradle to 8.4
Removed step to make gradlew executable (it already is)
Removed --no-daemon option from test execution
- it is added only in one invocation, so daemon is created anyway for the rest
- Gradle says daemons on CI are ok

@ILikeYourHat we needed to merge some other contributors branches before this upgrade, today it will be merged
