Moved to 0.6 when we get to turning on the DIOPT loader that @christabone wrote.

srengel commented 7 years ago

this suggested text change will need further discussion within Orthology WG. also not sure that DIOPT data will be used for 0.6. it was only approved for 0.3 because it was supposed to be "easy" to get and load.

Hi Stacia -- was the original idea to remove the DIOPT data from 0.6.0 even if it was loaded for 0.3.0?

Asking just for clarification purposes because this is the first I've heard regarding "included for 0.3.0 and out for 0.6.0".

@khowe made this note on issue #136 and it appeared that DIOPT would exist alongside Panther for 0.6.0:

"The ortholog WG would like to complement the DIOPT/multiple-method view with another view based a single method (e.g. PANTHER) - to provide additional resources such as trees and multiple alignments. This is planned for 0.6."

original idea (or not) aside, this will need more discussion for 0.6.

christabone commented 7 years ago

Ok, sounds good!

I hope everything pans out, there was a significant amount of work undertaken by @a8wright and I to get the data ~90% complete. I hope we can still use it!

Regarding DIOPT for 0.6: there has been general agreement within the Orthology WG that we will want to implement our own multi-method integrated view of orthology:

AGRIVO : the Alliance of Genome Resources Integrated View of Orthology.

(note: I just made that up - it has not been vetted by the WG!)

We've not defined a timeline for it yet. I could speculate, and say that it's unlikely to be in place for 0.6 - in which case we would default to using DIOPT data. But as Stacia says, this needs more discussion within the WG.

OK, thanks for all the feedback everyone.

AGRIVO sounds amazing. It has a real "startup" vibe to it.
