Hi, is it possible to translate easily the application in other languages? Best regards Agentcobra

almarklein commented 2 years ago

Thanks for the question. This is a great suggestion!

Unfortunately, this not easy at all at the moment. It would be really nice if it was though, so that I could run timetagger.nl, timetagger.fr, etc.

Apart from the needed refactoring to make translations possible, there are also some organizational difficulties; I'd need translators that can commit for a longer period of time, to keep everying up-to-date, and who maybe also respond to user questions in their native tongue.

Thinking a bit further, perhaps I should adopt sort of a "franchise" model, so that someone could manage a version of timetagger specific to their country and share in the profit.

Another (maybe simpler to manage/deploy?) could be adding to timetagger.app a switch in the settings to change language, instead of creating different copies of the site.

As this is an open source project, I'd be willing to create and maintain the Spanish translation... if you ever decide to take the time to refactor everything for translation, which is probably a lot of work. I'm fine with English for now.

For the app, something like that could work. I'm not sure if it would make thinks easier. Maybe. There's also the website, which requires a different approach. Maye starting with the app would be good enough at first?

Thanks for offering help with the Spanish translations 👍

Hi, I'd like to contribute to your wonderful project by starting a translation in french. Could you please find a standard way to have one file with all strings that need to be translated ? GETTEXT module maybe (I'm not a programmer, just an enthousiast)

almarklein commented 2 years ago

Thanks for the offer to contribute a French translation!

agentcobra commented 2 years ago

@antipode-mj it's also for a french version 🙄

You can count on me for German. Maybe I can find the time to look into it and see how it can be refactored efficiently

this app is just what I needed, so I'm presenting myself to translate to PTBR and PTEU. I could also do Catalan.
