At museum-digital we use the network component for visualizing links between public entries of the different types in a so-called graph navigation (we tried to find a name accessible for a wide public). Example: https://nat.museum-digital.de/graph.php?t=objekt&oges=621739
The "graph navigation" is always opened for a single entry, and the user can then load additional information by clicking on a node.
A second use case for the network component at md, but probably less interesting because it is a bit hidden, is the generation of family trees on search result pages. Example: https://nat.museum-digital.de/index.php?t=listen&persinst_id=14191 (click on the "Genealogy" tab).
