At this time the configuration of testrecording is done via an extension-point-based configuration.

Advantages:

quite flexible
no need to build your own agent-jar

Disadvantages:

configuration errors are hard to resolve (in practice debugging Testrecorder internals has been the only succesful way to do it)
repackaging an own agent-jar gets quite complicated

Maybe we should separate the agent lib into two parts:

the pure-java agent containing the shared functionality and a builder-based-configuration
the blackbox agent which is configurable via extension points
