@timpaul @joelanman is there any example of this or guidance or something?

joelanman commented 6 years ago

This is another example of a pattern provided by GOV.UK. You can see an example here. ~However I think there's a new version somewhere with larger text~, @dashouse ?

Here's the component in Government Frontend - http://government-frontend.herokuapp.com/component-guide/related-navigation

ignaciaorellana commented 6 years ago

thanks @dashouse @joelanman

Hi @joelanman @dashouse the related-navigation example link isn't working.

Can you point me in the right direction please? Thanks

colinrotherham commented 6 years ago

Ah so it uses underscores now:

@colinrotherham If you use the code from the Start page pattern in the prototype kit the CSS will work - https://design-system.service.gov.uk/patterns/start-pages/

This is because the related links CSS is in the prototype kit and not in GOV.UK Frontend. You can see it here - https://github.com/alphagov/govuk-prototype-kit/blob/master/app/assets/sass/patterns/_related-items.scss

We were going to update this to the new style from GOV.UK, however it has only rolled out on certain start pages (they have lots of different apps) and we were told the design was still in progress and subject to change. We will update when we know it's good to roll out the new style. Hope that helps?

I'd +1 for this getting in the design system. I'm working on a casework system and on a few account-type pages wouldn't mind putting related links on the right.

It's not hard to recreate the sass, but standardising in a macro would be ace.

kalpaitch commented 3 years ago

It's been two years, just giving this a bump.

It would be really good to include the sass in GOV.UK Frontend. Given that this component is currently used by the start page it doesn't seem right that it is not available and needs to be recreated. Thanks.

joelanman commented 3 years ago

It would help to gather evidence of where this is useful in services. We know of the usage on GOV.UK Publishing (Start pages), but it needs to be useful across multiple services in order to be considered for the Design System.

kalpaitch commented 3 years ago

Appreciate the answer, I guess the confusion for me stems from whether or not the patterns (particularly the Start page) are part of the Design System, because they currently appear to recommend this component.

Should they either not be suggesting use of this component which isn't in the Design System, or should this component be included? Or is it assumed ok that a component recommended by a pattern is not in the Design system? I guess this is the question I'm trying to answer, and coming at it as an outsider I'd assumed that if it was a recommended component it would be in the Design System. Thanks.
