The team will investigate and write up a proposal to share with the Frontend community and wider government for feedback on future changes to Javascript on the Design System. The proposal will cover a number of areas including,
Initialisation, configuration and modules
I18n
remove polyfills
This work also includes letting users know about dropping support for IE8,IE9, IE10 and change IE11 support to functional.
Why?
Doing this will allow Design System to build more complex components that require complex Javascript. E.g char count, Welsh language toggle, autocomplete, modal windows. It aligns with our users need for more components.
We're going with a proposal to the community so that the community can tell us what works for them. They are the users that will need to adopt these changes and will impact how they use GOV.UK Frontend in the future. This is also a way to seek experience and best practice from across government and give our users a sense of buy-in to the changes.
Key Results
