Tell users about WCAG 2.2

What

WCAG 2.2 was released in October 2023.

The GOV.UK Design System is committed to supporting teams to understand the updated criteria. This includes updating GOV.UK Frontend and the Design System website so it's compliant and exploring a comms strategy.

Why

WCAG documentation can complex and confusing and we are in a position to simply it for our users
there is complex new criteria which we are in a position make more understandable

Discussion between David, Kelly and Steve about prioritising blog posts.

The 2 blogs that will be prioritised are:

Announcing the WCAG 2.2 update for the GOV.UK Design System

WCAG 2.2 detective skills (to help teams determine if their services may be affected by WCAG 2.2 criteria)

We’re planning to publish them to the Accessibility in Government blog, and David has reached out to that blog’s co-manager to start the process

David will be gone by the time they get published, so we’re hoping to get him credited as either an existing employee (it’s only off by a bit), a ‘guest’ writer, or possibly a former GDS employee

My final thoughts:

I think all the comms should go on the 'Accessibility in Government' blog. I can share their email address if needed.
I'd still love to write the detective skills blog! reach out to me and I can either guest-write or co-write.
Happy to write the WCAG 2.2 update launch bog as well!

I've emailed the Accessibility in Government blog inbox and CC'ed Kelly and Steve. We'll see where it goes from there! 🤞
