Potential accessibility problem with purple visited links #3242

Open JonathanCulling opened 1 year ago

What

I have recently conducted research with cognitively impaired users of Assistive Technology on our service which was built using the Gov.uk design system. Our service, which is in Public Beta, can be found at: https://www.support-with-employee-health-and-disability.dwp.gov.uk/support-with-employee-health-and-disability

Why

Cognitively impaired participants found it hard to distinguish purple visited links from the standard black running copy, so could not easily pick them out. They asked if a different colour might be used for visited links.

Anything else

GDS standard potential issues 2

I have attached a slide from my report covering this potential issue. Could someone please let me know if there is any leeway in the Gov.uk guidelines which would enable our team to fix the issue for our users?

Hello! I'm going to shift this over to our Frontend repo. We'd welcome any research you have in our discussion of the Typography styles: https://github.com/alphagov/govuk-design-system-backlog/issues/64

I've asked on https://github.com/alphagov/govuk-design-system-backlog/issues/64 whether other services have encountered the same issue, which should help us corroborate this finding.

Thank you, @stevenjmesser.

Hi @JonathanCulling I'm doing some research into this issue and would be very interested to hear if, or how, you took this forward?
