I have no particular view on the details of the Java style guide added here.

I would note though that this repository has been viewed so far as just for GOV.UK ("publishing") code, and there isn't any Java code there for this to apply to.

If the GOV.UK tech leadership are happy for this to go here, I'd be fine with that. However, I wonder if this fits better in the gds-tech repo. A chunk of the text from this repository is reproduced there: https://github.com/alphagov/gds-tech/blob/master/source/documentation/programming-languages.html.md.erb
