I'm having this problem on Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon, seems like even after about 2 months there is no clear solution. Has anyone figured anything out about this? How would I fix this problem?
I got here after installing the latest version of ffmpefg by running sudo apt-add-repository ppa:savoury1/ffmpeg5
and pressing [Enter] when prompted, then re-installing SteamVR....
I also have chromium installed, but hidden because I never use it outside of this usecase.
also, this was launched from the latest nightly *.Appimage file.
AWNSER: I got it working!!!! here are the steps I did to get it working: 1) install Chromium 2) Install ffmpeg 3) Install SteamVR from Steam and run it once then close it 4) close Steam 5) download the latest nightly .appimage 6) run the latest nightly .appimage from the terminal 7) Set up and RUN!!! Proof if it working you can thank me later.

Nice! No quest audio is sad but glad to hear otherwise!
I think there was a fix for audio at one point, but I think it's Arch exclusive.

Oooof
There is a guy in the Discord server that is working on Pipewire support, hopefully it will improve things on the audio department.
Agreed. But otherwise, if we can figure out how to mod beat saber on Linux, we can play that while we wait.
And we're all going to have the music blasting from our computer speakers.
Just have curiosity, how would you guys feel about me making a bash script that autonomizes installing all the prerequisites and downloading the required files? Would y'all be down for that?
Another thing I discovered is chromium isn't strictly required, I now know the websocket that it uses to open in web browsers, so therefore Firefox is usable. That being said it won't show up in its own window but it's better than having a chromium based web browser on your system.

heck yeah! that would be AMAZING!

Cool, when I get time I'll start working on it. It'll be a little bit before I upload it though because I don't have internet at my house, the only way I'm talking right now is through my phone.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you however this is a Linux mint xfce only issue thread, if your issue is not pertaining to Linux mint xfce which is ubuntu-based, and there isn't already an issue open about your specific issue, feel free to open a new one but unfortunately this is not the place for you.

I will really thank you a lot, because I successfully run the steamVR for a lot of times but suddenly it doesnt work.I just shut all the steam things down and then the alvr work normally!!!!!
I was told exactly what to do to use ALVR on linux, but of course it won't work and its stuck on this. What am I missing and are there any alternatives to this program that actually runs.
