VRCHAT launches into desktop mode when opened from inside ALVR on headset #2496

Description

When I connect to steam through alvr on the quest for your meta data 2 headset and go to game menu and launch VRCHAT, I'm left at the loading logo in the headset while vrchat launches into desktop mode when opened from inside ALVR on headset =(

This is first time setup of alvr and went very well but maybe this game just doesn't work with alvr? I should try a different game and see if it works.

General Troubleshooting

I had to add the launch option to fix sandboxing issue but everything looks fine with the connection. I can see steam vr in the headset and it tracks around fine.

Environment

A brief note informing people this command is gonna broadcast their entire hardware setup to the whole interwebs would be nice. https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=0c4a99defe)

Audio: I think I saw something about adding a audio program somewhere along the way and didn't do it? Maybe this is the cause?

Installation

I missed the description for this sry.

ALVR Version: 20.11.1

ALVR Settings File: ? How do I get this?

SteamVR Version: Steam Beta Branch: Stable Client Steam Version: 1730853027 Steam Client Build Date: Tue, Nov 5 9:33 PM UTC -08:00 Steam Web Build Date: Wed, Nov 6 12:21 AM UTC -08:00 Steam API Version: SteamClient021

Install Type: deb,

Although Vrchat is a totally convincing reality for me in every way, I am in fact mentally divergent. I know when I stop going there I will be well. 🤪

In addition to loading into desktop mode from ALVR steam VR headset menu, the image on the desktop is magnified! I can only see the top left corner of the frankendesktop game that should be in vr mode!

I installed pipewire which seemed to be already installed and now steam vr and vrchat are taking 3 times longer to load.

Might be some clues in vrchat logs, but to late to check rn I been at this for about 4 hours.

If anyone has this issue, I had not set the alvr folder to full read, write permissions. After doing that it worked well. I don't know if this was part of it but I had proton set to version 8.5 and set it back to the current version and it works. Now wondering if there's any way to make ovr advanced settings work. If anyone knows any tips to make vrc more stable in linux i would love to hear it. This is amazing, thanks for this ALVR app.
