7 years ago Circuits don't have a rotation, so your first suggestion won't work. Maybe in the future... but right now it's not a thing, nor is it planned.
Indicating I/O is doable but I'm still considering what a nice way to show it would be. I'm not really sold on the whole desaturating colors thing because then you wouldn't see if it's red dust or multicolored dust (even though you can assume by the number of dust icons). I thought of rendering little icons along the border, but they'd be way too small to see normally... so yeah... no idea how I'll do it
Could you mark one pixel on the top left corner of every circuit (hidden and not hidden) to determine the rotation of the circuit, because right now you can't really determine it on symmetric circuit or when placing on circuit on another.
Also could you mark the inputs and outputs of each side on hidden circuits (for example only show the tiny pile of redstone or the bundled cable if there is a connection on the side or decrease the saturation of the others & a in/out arrow or something).
