Since the lag delay of dragging wire makes it almost unusable, skipping the majority of the tiles as you drag at all but the slowest speeds, I think being able to sneak click to draw a line between the previous wire would be a great workflow option instead. This could be similar to how the photoshop pencil tool works; click at one point, and then Sneak-click at a second point to draw a straight line between the two points.
