The code is very tangled. Naming is unclear to say the least. Many functions are hidden in other code, leaving the maintainer to wonder what the original author possibly could have intended. Some functions are so large it is practically impossible to maintain.
This pull request is no where near solving the issues. The question is becoming whether we are saving a system or dissecting a corpse. I do not have the answer. Time will tell.
