What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1a3/1a4

Do you get "A newer version is already installed" or what? The installer *is*
set to remove older versions if found. I imagine if you choose something other
than the default install directory it might keep them...

1a5 required that I force quit the previous versions, which is too tricky for a
newbie. Trying to send a soft quit command and then doing an automatic force
quit is better. : )

I didn't write the installer, its the standard Windows Installer. I cannot
easily change those details about it. However, it turns out this bug is very
much real and is a result of Visual Studio not properly handling installer
versions less than 1.0.0. The new beta release uses a working version number,
so please uninstall Pad Tie and reinstall 0.1b1 and this problem should
disappear in the future. And you should always close the program you are
updating before updating or you will always be asked to restart (it's not just
Pad Tie). However, just finish the installation and choose Restart Later, then
close and reopen Pad Tie and everything should be updated.

Fixed in 0.1b1

Sweet. Hope I am not being annoying with the UI stuff, just trying to be
helpful.
