PROBLEM:
I have sent this problem description to Lulu as well, as I am not sure whose
problem it is!
I am trying to revise my book, which has been on sale with Lulu for a year. The
problem is with their version of epubcheck-1.1, which appears to be a modified
version of the real epubcheck. It was apparently modified for Barnes & Noble.
1) It should really not be called epubcheck, as I believe the real epubcheck is
up to version 3.0, and does not contain the tests that I ran into: 2 known
(unmanifested files, and "invalid" publication date)), and some number unknown.
2) The Lulu epubcheck-1.1 was putting out two specific messages, which I have
fixed, and now it just says "Did not pass epubcheck-1.1 validation", with no
details. Is there a way to get details about what errors it is detecting?
3) My epub passes all the public validation programs with flying colours,
including Sigil sweep and epubcheck-3.0, but keeps failing on the Lulu version.
It also now passes the test for unmanifested files (there is a separate app on
the Net for this).
4) Their message saying "invalid publication date XML" is misleading - my date
was not incorrect, but apparently they wanted an opf:event entry for
"publication" - they should have said something like "missing event indication
on date"
5) I am only trying to revise my book because I felt that some of the tables
were hard to read - there is no real change to the content, but I have now
spent 2 days on this already! :-)
7) Looking at the Lulu forums, it is apparent that this problem is creating a
lot of frustration on the part of the Lulu users - perhaps someone supporting
epubcheck can clarify what is going on
OPERATING SYSTEM : Win 7 - 64-bit
Epubcheck - 1.1 (supposedly)
