Media (Primary and Non Primary Images) #3

Open bsnikhila opened 7 years ago

bsnikhila commented 7 years ago

There are 2 files, Media (Primary Images) and Media (Non Primary Images). There is only one kind of mapping for Image given (http://review.americanartcollaborative.org/entity/E22_Man-Made_Object#field_0-search_0). Should I map the Media (Non Primary Images)? If so, how do I distinguish between the primary and non primary images?

Diana-Folsom commented 7 years ago

We will combine the two media files into one where we will provide a key for the primary image (using the number 1) and indicate order for the non-primary images. Since many of our items are archival manuscripts, order becomes important. There will be cases where the order has not been completed, however.

A new file named Media_Combined.csv has been uploaded. Copying the commit note here for reference, and if the GM folks need to clarify anything.

To allow for more efficient mapping, new media file that combines primary and non-primary images. Primary images are indicated by Primary Key = 1 or Display Order = 1 Additional images are indicated by Primary Key = NULL and Display Order > 1 Note that Display Order is present for all primary images, but not every additional image has a completed Display Order.

Thanks for the new file. But I don't know how to model the non-primary images. I am able to model the primary images using the mapping given (http://review.americanartcollaborative.org/entity/E22_Man-Made_Object#field_0-search_0). But since there is no mapping given for non-primary images, I will just leave it out of the model for now.

workergnome commented 7 years ago

All images use the same model: http://review.americanartcollaborative.org/entity/E22_Man-Made_Object#field_30-search_0

I would add a p2_has_type to http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300404670 for the primary image, just to distinguish it.

Has this issue been solved? This is important for Archive items. The ordering of non-primary images is of utmost importance for Archive items, as well.

workergnome commented 7 years ago

The mechanism that we have for ordering images this is the IIIF Presentation API, and this would have to be integrated into ISI's image API generation code. I don't know if it has, but @caknoblock might know.

caknoblock commented 7 years ago

I don’t believe this is currently support in our image API generation.

So it looks like we're just presenting primary images at the moment? If yes, ok to close this?

Diana-Folsom commented 7 years ago

Yes, it sounds like that's all we can do at this time. This should be on our list for future development solutions...

Thank you!

Best,

Diana
