PRIMETIME APP WANTED IN CANADA WANTED ASAP. #123

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
ALL THAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET THIS APP WORKING IN CANADA IS THE ABILITY TO
ENTER A 6 DIGIT LETTER/NUMBER COMINATION CANADIAN POSTAL CODE ENABLES IN THE
SETTINGS APP ON ALL GTV DEVICES. YOUR I.TV TV LISTINGS PROVIDER ALREADY
SUPORTS CANADIAN TV LISTINGS. THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY QUICK UPDATE FOR GTV TO
PERFORM.

PrimeTime shows e.g. Amazon content and they have lots of content outside the
US but being unable to select a non-US location that content is never listed.

This is a must have feature!!! It's the reason I couldn't wait to purchase a
GoogleTV. I was VERY dissappointed to find out that this function was not
available in Canada. I don't want to use my cable companies archaic guide. In
fact, I don't want to have to see any of my cable companies dvr menus. The
cable companies dvr should just be a backend for recording my TV shows. I want
to browse and schedule recordings using PrimeTime on my GoogleTV. GoogleTV has
a great universal search engine, but what good is an awesome search function if
it's only searching a few sources for me (netflix, webpages, imdb) We need
results for what's on live TV and what I have recorded on my dvr. I really
don't know why you would release this product outside of the U.S. if it doesn't
work to it's full potential.

Honestly Google you disappoint!

How is this not false advertisement to even sell a device and not support the
main features of the product?

I agree with the above comments as this feature is an essential part of the
Google TV experience. It would be appreciated on feedback whether the issue is
with Canadian cable companies such as Rogers or is it with Google not enabling
it yet in Canada.

Something tells me this has to do with Rogers or even the CRTC but would love
for someone in Google to confirm.

Thanks!

Ryan

Could be Rogers... I know they block CITYTV when I try and play it from the
site through my Sony Google TV box.

I was able to use Archos DVR to record my cable TV programs several years ago.
They had TV listing working on their media players for several countries so I
am confused as to why this issue is not resolved?

Any ETA on Canada support?

One of the key differentiating features of the Sony Internet Player is that you
can use the strength of Google Search in conjunction with your cable/satellite
service. Unfortunately this feature is currently only available with the US
firmware and only works in conjunction with US cable/satellite providers. As a
result of this and the fact that there the Canadian version is also missing the
‘Primetime’ app which allows you to purchase TV shows/movies through
amazon.com, the Canadian version is really not worth the price tag. You can get
pretty much the same functionality out other less expensive options. SOny
please provide a firmware update for Canadians that allow TV integration
components and add a Canadian version of the Primetime app. I am afriad that if
these issues are not addressed the product is really not worth the pricetag in
Canada.

Another Canadian here, really wishing we had PrimeTime support for Bell
Expressvu. I can understand that purchasing TV shows may not be possible in
Canada (we can get movies from the play store so I'd think that would be
possible). However, I'm more interested in the EPG stuff with my provider.
Certainly the same sources you use for American services would likely have EPG
data for Canadian providers (zap2it comes to mind).

Please update it so we can at least use PrimeTime for our program guide, and
add providers such as Bell ExpressVu, Shaw Direct, Rogers, and Cogeco (and I'm
sure there's a few others).

OK I get there might be some issue with adding this functionally in Canada and
that's fine. However, ignoring us is not, what's the word Google?

This is not a developer question, but a consumer/business topic.

This forum is for developer questions.

If you need more developer informations how to implement the ChannelLineup,
please refer to:
https://developers.google.com/tv/android/docs/gtv_channel_lineup

This is an issue with Google TV. I'm an android developer, and based on the
developer documentation for google tv, there is no way to implement being a
channel provider, but rather only to query available providers.

So, as a developer I have no way to implement provider data for a lineup such
as Bell Expressvu, so I would say, as a developer, this issue is valid in
requesting the ability to implement a channel provider to provide channel
lineups.

Bottom line, if you guys aren't going to help us Canadians out by adding our
providers (really all you'd need to do is allow Canadian Postal Codes to be
entered, and your provider would likely return the data), then let us help
ourselves!

A valid point is made by saying that this is a somewhat inappropriate place to
post our frustrations with this lack of service. However, this is an issue that
I feel strongly about and posting on a forum will allow you to see how many
Canadians are not pleased with this in hopes that Google will notice that this
is something we really require to consider Google TV a worth while product for
purchase. Furthermore, it will help other Canadian consumers from being mislead
by american ads about Google TV, thinking that naturally a similar service
would be offered to Canadians.

If there is a more appropriate forum for this topic that the Google TV team
monitors please guide us to that forum.

It may be a hold up with Google and the CRTC? Check out Myth TV for Google TV
for a superior alternative to Primetime. The Dev is on Google + and his vid is
awesome for those interested in Myth TV!

Get a dish from a US provider for now if you can get your hands on one is the
only option and it's illegal. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab II with an App
called Peel and built in IR blaster. I no longer need GTV.
