Search button not working in google play.

When clicking on the search button in the app a background comes up with the 
search icon, but no search box and attempts to blind type and press enter 
doesn't result in any action.

I am having this issue not in Google Play, but Google Play Music. Exactly as 
the original poster described. I am using a Sony NSZ-GS7. Have tried 
reinstalling the app, no change.
