Please add some use-cases.

I can see the potential for an API that would allow access to the live TV
audio/video. It would allow for apps to have features similar to apples airplay.
I good example:
Imagine its 12 midnight, the wife's asleep and you want to watch some TV before
getting sleep yourself . You would activate an application on your googltv that
would mute your tv then stream the livetv audio to your android phone which
happens to have earphones attached.

Apps should have access to the entire broadcast stream: audio/video/text. My
use-case would be to have JSON text embedded in the MPEG container (MPEG-4 Part
17). An app could use the JSON data, which is synchronized with the
audio/video, to fire events on a second-screen device. Example: You're
watching a cooking show. when the recipe is shown on the screen, it is also
transmitted in the JSON and sent to the viewer's tablet device.
I have logged issue #21 for this request.

use case:
going to the kitchen to get some food, ... and not missing anything of a live
game or show because you can take your Android tablet with you and not miss a
thing. (can't pause if you have guests or don't want to hear dots alt a goal
from the house next door before you get to watch it happen.

It would be just great: imagine augmented reality on stream! But I think it may
be a problem for TV channels. (Anyone can record and diffuse the stream)

Can we at least have access to screenshot the stream?

Can we get an explanation as to why this is not feasible?

There is currently not enough storage on Google TV devices to support pausing
live TV. Access to Live TV from a program might conflict with HDCP requirement.
