As of today, both HBO GO and MAX GO show a gray screen when videos are
launched. No signs of flash activity (sites load correctly though).
On Google+ official GTV page reports of this have popping out since June 12th
2013. People getting stuck at optimizing video quality or gray screen.
Begging of the end for chrome 11...funeral for flash 10.2
Gives some love Google. You pretty much used us as beta tester on this stuff.

I have been unable to access HBOGO from my ASUS Cube/GoogleTV device for the
past 5 days. Could you please fix the issue. The HBOGO feature is one of the
reasons I bought the device. The GoogleTV home page still advertises that it is
an application that works with HBOGO.

The following statement is from HBOGO.
__________________________________________________________________________
Thank you so much for your email. We value your feedback and appreciate you
taking the time to share it with us. HBO GO/MAX GO is not supported on Google
TV. Google TV is not compatible with HBO GO. Google TV's browser no longer
supports the Adobe Flash Player that is used by HBO GO.
Thank you,
The HBO GO Team

Will we get a flash update to support HBO GO/MAX again. It was one channel I
used frequently and enjoyed. Please let's not lose any more channels since we
have so few already thanks to NBC.

I hear there is an alternative device which recently added HBO support:

I am also very disappointed that HBOgo and MAXgo have stopped working. I have 2
Sony NSX Google TVs. Instead of getting better, Google TV seems to continue
loosing content . When are you folks at Google going to step up and make sure
your platform lives up to what you promised when I purchased the TVs.
Apple looks better and better every day.

Those of you who are upset with GoogleTV, you should be upset with HBOGo and
Adobe, since they are the reason it doesn't work. HBO Go changed their player
Flash requirements (why are they still using flash??) and they refuse to create
an application. Adobe decided to put Flash on EVERYTHING and then chose to
only support PCs and such (Steve Jobs was smart for saying no to Flash on
iProducts!). You're whining to the wrong company; while Google needs to find a
way to update flash, it's up to HBO Go to provide an app (as they have for
Apple TV and other devices) or change their streaming player to something
supported by more devices.
If you have a PC, you can use PlayOn which will give you HBO Go and a ton of
other content (ABC, Fox, MTV, all kinds of sports, etc...). Google did not let
you down, in this instance, as they didn't choose for HBO and Flash to go in
such absurd directions.
Buying a GoogleTV solely for HBO Go (as edal2 states) was a poor choice when
Roku is cheaper and supports it. I bought my GoogleTV primarily for use as a
Plex front end, but also for it's other uses. I, absolutely, want this
resolved but it's important to understand the situation.

October 2013 and google still doesnt give half a fuck about the false advertizing and shitty customer service. i hate google. Now I guess I gotta spend more money on a roku.

That language is not necessary. Google has no control over HBO or Adobe Flash.
You need to take your rude rant straight to HBO, they choose not to build an
app for gtv. Additionally, with the next release of GTV (jelly bean)... HBO
Go may actually work. HBO is choosing to use a poorly supported protocol and
Google cant do anything about that. Calm down!

Problem is that first gen Google TVs like the sony tvs and the revue will not
be getting an update. This is due to the processors not being compatible with
jelly bean. So what HBO needs to do is switch to HTML 5 so all Google TVs can
access it or make an app for Google TV.

Waiting for this as well,as this was a major purchase point. In actuality I
guess what I'm really wating for is a jellybean update for the Sony gs8. Yawn.

Actually it's entirely GoogleTV's fault. My sony nsv played HBO Go just fine
until they "updated" to the new platform/chromecast etc. and it died
immediately afterward. The entire point in buying the google platform was to
play HBOGo. Google "updated" the device and it stopped working. That had
nothing to do with HBOGo, Adobe or Flash. It had to do with GoogleTV removing
capability to force use of chromecast which does not support Flash. It's a
ripoff, a scam and quite possible a class action lawsuit.

It is not at all Google TV's fault. It's very simple, HBO chose to restrict
their service to a newer version of Flash (which is understandable) and Adobe
has decided not to update Flash on any Android device. HBO Go has the option
to use other mechanisms for streaming video that are compatible with Google TV
Chrome or the option to provide an app.
The issue occurred well before Chromecast and on a number of other platforms,
also (i.e. Boxee). If you want HBO Go on GoogleTV, you will need to use
something like PlayOn, period. Otherwise, you will have to get a Chromecast
(which is cheap and a great product, I use mine every day because Vizio has
broken their CoStar and refuses to fix it--I like the Chromecast better, I use
it with Plex, Netflix, HBO Go and youtube!! Mostly with Plex.
There is no possibility of a class action lawsuit, HBO Go was never a part of
the GoogleTV Platform, officially. If it were, there would be an app for it.
It's very unfortunate that HBO Go doesn't work, I think Steve Jobs hit the nail
right on the head when he refused to allow Flash on iOS! Flash needs to die,
it needs to be no more, period. There are more viable options that function
across multiple platforms. If HBO would design an app for Google TV or if the
vendors would push to the next version of Google TV, there may be other
options. It seems Google TV is being phased out.

The worst part is that HBOGo is working fine on the Android platform RIGHT NOW.
Through around 4 lines of code, HBO could open the app up from Tablet/Phone
only installs to a TV (Google TV) install being available.
Of course, the UI could use some polishing if it's going to be on Google TV,
but I can live with a bad UI. It's better than no HBOGo.
