Yes, they were removed (the feature is broken for some due to a bug in VLC).
If this is a feature you use often, you may downgrade to 0.4.3 for now:

Yes well I followed the instructions in the wiki to get them working.
I understand you don't want a software to ship with broken buttons by default
in the GUI, hence the removal.
Maybe there could be an option to enable the extra buttons in the settings? It
could display a warning that the VLC config need to be hacked for them to work?
In the mean time I will downgrade as 0.4.3 was working well anyways. Thanks

Hi
On tablet (Asus Transformer prime), the old version is crashing so I have to
use v 0.5.3. That version do not have the extra option buttons. Is there a way
to enable them?

I manually downloaded v0.5.5 and it added them back. However I can't say I like
the drop down menu for these buttons.
Will this version be uploaded to the market?
