This pops you straight into the email composer(if default is set) instead of
having to pick from a list of apps, most of which don't make sense.

The "plain/text" does not look as a standard mime-type to me... I can't see how
it could be supported by all email apps.

How did you find that ?

I used it by accident when trying to send an email from my app. It was a hit on
stackOverflow I found when searching for email sending examples. Which in turn
pointed to

http://developer.android.com/reference/android/content/Intent.html#ACTION_SEND

With plain/text, it popped straight into gmail, while text/plain offered quite
a large list, including meaningless ones like messaging and dropbox.

Maybe it is just a gmail only mimeType, I didn't try without.

Gmail supporting the "plain/text" mime type is an oddity. This might as well
disappear in any future update of the app.

Anyway, some people just don't use the GMail app to write their emails, but
rather the generic email client.
