Support for alpha (transparency) values in Google Earth balloons

Which products are relevant to this feature request?
Google Earth any version

What should this feature enhancement do?
Although the KML docs don't explicitly forbid alpha values in BalloonStyle's 
<bgColor>, Google Earth doesn't seem to support it.
Enabling that particular feature in future releases would be nice.

Are there any currently known workarounds that produce the same, or
similar, result?
None that I know of.

This feature is very important for us, since a lot of data is displayed in our 
balloons so they are big and hiding almost all the map behind.
