I can, under no circumstance, find either a way to get primus to run, or find an individual that knows how to get primus to run. #102

Primus will under no circumstance, function properly for me.

I don't know if this is the proper place for this, but I just can't find any relevant information on primus.

Here's an example of my issue:

Herp@Derp-Laptop ~ $ primusrun glxspheres glxspheres: libglfork.cpp:248: PrimusInfo::PrimusInfo(): Assertion `ncfg' failed. Aborted (core dumped)

I've looked in every place google and I can think of with no results. Primus will not run a damn thing for me; [primusrun gedit] even fails.

I just really need help with this, and nowhere else can. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

This error usually indicates that NVIDIA drivers are not properly installed for use with Bumblebee: Mesa libGL.so.1 and/or libglx.so got overwritten. Check /var/log/Xorg.0.log and output of glxinfo for more details.

Use distribution-specific instructions for installing Bumblebee and nVidia drivers, and in particular do not install the drivers from the downloaded .run file.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

Thanks for the quick reply.

I used the Synaptic-Package-Manager to install the drivers. I use Mint, I've looked for an installation method specifically aimed at Mint but couldn't find one. I used Ubuntu instead since Mint is closely based on Ubuntu. I've tried primusrun with every version of Nvidia drivers that Synaptic has to offer with no results. If there is a way to configure the drivers to run properly I'de love to hear about it.

I consider myself to be, on the scale of familiarity with Linux, a medium; or a 5/10. I don't know exactly what part of the log is of importance but I do know the information is there.

And again, thanks for any help offered.

Install (or reinstall) bumblebee-nvidia

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

I have reinstalled Bumblebee. It was one of first things I did.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

Xorg.0.log you've provided shows that nVidia GLX module is loaded, while Mesa GLX should be loaded by primary X instead. It indicates that either you do not have bumblebee-nvidia package (not just bumblebee) that switches the OpenGL/GLX libraries to Mesa, or you have installed nVidia drivers from a .run file, in which case you need to reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx and xserver-xorg-core.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

I've done that and now I get this error, each time I try and use bumblebee, on VirtualGL or Primus.

optirun java -jar minecraft.jar

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

I use minecraft because it's easy and fast to launch, for the purposes of testing my GPU settings.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

Read /var/log/Xorg.8.log to see what's going wrong. You probably need to reinstall nvidia drivers (via the package manager) and bumblebee-nvidia.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

Thought of that, it didn't work for me.

Here's the log

And Thanks for such a quick responce.

Looks like nvidia drivers are not installed.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

I assure you, they are installed. I can manually verify they're installed. Before you ask, I have reinstalled them.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

Which version did you install? According to the log, it should be 319.xx, but /usr/lib/nvidia-319/xorg does not contain a driver. Did you edit bumblebee.conf by hand to specify the path for 319.xx drivers, but then install a different version?

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

I cycle through all of the drivers trying one after another. Each time I DO edit bumblebee.conf each time, to the corresponding drivers.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

Provide output of ls -R /usr/lib/nvidia*/, dmesg after invoking optirun, and contents of your bumblebee.conf

Every time you demonstrate a different breakage in your system. Now the config seems reasonable at a glance, but something broke the bumblebee daemon -- read the system log. And I don't see any mention of bbswitch in the log, although some suspend-resume activity is there.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

This is why I've given up trying to do it myself. I know enough, to use, install, and (limitedly) configure software. I really don't have any troubleshooting skills for Linux :/ I just don't know enough to do it right. Just tell me what you need.

Also, thanks for your consistent help.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

Install bbswitch, reboot, run optirun --status, if the daemon is not running, try sudo bumblebeed --debug, otherwise try optirun --debug true.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

bbswitch is installed already.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

The notification e-mail contained different version numbers, so you edited or substituted the log after submission.

"Primus LD Path" appears wrong, it should not contain an nvidia component.

When you install drivers or edit bumblebee.conf, you must reboot before testing it.

DartTimeTime commented 11 years ago

I installed, changed bumblebee.conf, rebooted, tested, and changed/edited the post to match my current settings.

amonakov commented 11 years ago

OK, let's look at Xorg.8.log again.

DartTimeTime commented 10 years ago

Been busy. Here's the log. Thanks again.

The log now looks looks fine. However, you (yet again) installed a different version of nvidia drivers. I don't know if your bumblebee.conf now matches you driver installation or not, or whether you removed path to nvidia libraries from primus library path like I'm telling you for the third time now, but overall this makes helping you a waste of time more than anything else. Learn how the system works instead of blindly reinstalling drivers. Case closed.

If you wont offer support for primus, where can I go, to find support for it then?
