Fails when used in Chrome packaged app, since version 34 #47

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run Chrome version 34 or above. (issue doesn't arise in 33)
2. Install and run a Chrome packaged app that uses dat.gui.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected output is app loading with dat.gui UI appearing. Instead, only white 
screen appears, with Javascript console error: 

window.localStorage is not available in packaged apps. Use chrome.storage.local 
instead.

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'getItem' of undefined 
(dat.gui.min.js:59)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

On Chrome 34 (Canary) on Windows 7.
