HSModem crashing on illegal instruction #7

My hsModem installation doesn't work.
More specifically the oscardata.exe runs, but whenever it tries to connect to the hsmodem executable, that one crashes with illegal instruction.
the hsmodem on its own starts up just fine.
I'm on MX Linux with kernel 5.10, Xfce 4.18, ALSA k5.10.0, pulseAudio 14.2
